BackgroundThe TANet network infrastructure has been designed to facilitate co-location of ISP networking equipment at many of its 90 plus Points of Presence. Connectivity between PoPs can be via dark fibre, optical wavelengths, SDH, Ethernet or ATM. All major UK telehotel facilities and all 3 major internet exchanges are on net. The TANet national and metropolitan network infrastructure are ready made to allow you to cost effectively extend your service coverage to areas you cannot currently cost effectively reach Or improve service to areas you are already in. Complementing your own network infrastructure, the TANet networks also enjoy direct connectivity with the regulated partial private circuit infrastructure, making last mile services to customer premises amongst the most cost effective in the UK. The propositionConnecting an ISPs core network directly to TANet immediately gives the ISP access to all of TANet's Points of Presence. The benefit comes about as a direct result of the cost of connecting customers to the "backbone" using partial private circuits, symmetric DSL services, leased lines and LAN extension services. Without the TANet network, an ISP in Birmingham wanting to connect a customer in Edinburgh would have to pay a traditional telcos distance and bandwidth based connection charges effectively pricing them out the business compared to an Edinburgh based ISP. By using the TANet network, the ISP would connect the customer to the TANet Edinburgh PoP and let TANet carry the traffic back to Birmingham. By Hosting his own equipment in the TANet Edinburgh PoP,the ISP may use the same TANet circuit to host many individual customer connections. Thus, the TANet network enables ISPs to extend their coverage very easily indeed. And, most importantly, to scale expenditure in line with customer revenues. Service optionsService is available using either direct SDH circuits or via TANet's ATM switches. IP routing and HSSI capability is inherent. By working closely with Fibernet, ISPs can develop competitively differentiable networks that exploit both the available co-location facilities AND the inherently resilient architecture of the TANet network to deliver high performance (Up to STM16 between core switches) resilient national networks in very short timescales. TANet offers an extremely low cost route to providing viable national service. Backbone connectionsPoP to PoP services may be provisioned using the following technologies: In the metro: Dark Fibre, Optical Wavelengths @ STM4 or STM16, SDH from E1 to STM4, Ethernet from 1Mbit to 1Gbit. Nationally: Optical wavelengths @ STM16, SDH from E1 to STM4, Ethernet from 1Mbit to 1Gbit (Point to point, point to multipoint, any to any), ATM PVCs from E1 to STM1 Last mile servicesTANet customers enjoy perhaps the most comprehensive choice of last mile services available in the UK. Fibernet's investment in both symmetric DSL and PPC infrastructure provides extremely cost effective national termination of IP services to customer premises at rates from 64Kbit to 155Mbit using fibre and at speeds up to 2Mbit using copper. Fibernet's relationships with all major national and regional operators ensure that the best locally available services for LAN extension are procured, as well as private circuits to more remote regions. Co-locationMany of the TANet Points of Presence are suitable for the co-location of ISP access equipment, switches, routers and servers. In conjunction with the network itself, co-location can enable an extremely fast roll out of national network infrastructure allowing for the development of an extremely cost competitive networking core. Fibernet engineers may optionally provide "remote hands" maintenance services. Secure escorted and unescorted access arrangements are possible. Hosted networksTANet services are at their most valuable when the ISP is prepared to exploit the resilient design of the TANet network itself rather than just considering it to be a series of fast, low cost conections. By treating the TANet network as "your own" and using TANet premises, network management and physical interconnect you can build extremely powerful national networks at very low relative cost. Fibernet are also prepared to design, build and operate private national layer 3 networks on top of their layer 2 services on behalf of individual ISPs. Private peering connectionsTANet's Points of Presence at London's telehouses , Telecity in Manchester and Scolocate in Edinburgh facilitate peering with the country's leading ISPs. International connectivityMany of Fibernet's carrier clients offer international connectivity. Their established connections to the TANet network facilitate low cost interconnect with ISPs. Voice gatewaysAgain, many of our Carrier Clients are prepared to work with ISPs to develop Voice over IP and Voice over DSL to PSTN gateway services.
