National ServiceFibernet is a bespoke managed network service provider. We built and operate one of the UK's largest, newest, fastest and most reliable fibre optic networks. The network is called "TANet". As an entity, it is constantly evolving and expanding, spanning thousands of route kilometres. The network has more than 90 access points (Points of Presence or 'PoPs') in over 50 towns and cities across the UK, providing access speeds ranging from 64Kilobits per second to tens of Gigabits per second. Last mile access from TANet PoPs is achieved by a variety of different means, including but not limited to direct fibre connections via our metropolitan networks, discrete private fibre "digs", leased private circuits, LAN Extension Circuits, Microwave, ADSL and SDSL. City NetworksThe national network is complemented and extended by Fibernet owned metropolitan networks in the majority of the UK's main cities. The largest metro network is, of course, in London and Fibernet's own fibre routes extend to more than 300Km, providing pervasive coverage in the Docklands, The City, The West End and extending out to Heathrow and Slough. These metropolitan networks are also constantly expanding, in direct response to new customer requirements. Fibernet also own and operate a metropolitan network in Frankfurt. This network is home to Fibernet's "Frankfurt Carrier Ring" - a base of more that 40 international carriers operating as a trading community using Fibernet transmission services as a common carrier of voice traffic. The Frankfurt network also serves to meet the needs of Frankfurt's financial services community for ultra high bandwidth optical networking services used for data centre to data centre communications. Flexibility, performance and reliabilityTANet is equally suited to carrying data, telephony and video traffic and is based upon a wave division multiplexing core, affording scalability up to Terabits per second. The network is based upon a series of long distance interconnected fibre rings, with no less than two interconnects between any two rings, and uses ring based transmission technologies, including synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) and Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) to provide a totally resilient service layer. (SDH and RPR traffic can find its way both ways around a ring between any two given points - a failure at any point on a ring, no matter how catastrophic, simply results in the traffic finding its way around the other 'side'.) SDH and RPR provide the most reliable network services money can buy for the transmission of data between multiple points across long distances. We overlay Ethernet services on our WDM and RPR national infrastructure ensuring carrier class availability and traffic engineering capabilities are available to our Ethernet customers anywhere in the UK. Our IP VPN and private IP services are provided to individual customer requirement and may be implemented upon any of the TANet service layers (WDM, Ethernet, SDH & ATM) Fibernet ATM services are enabled by a national mesh of more than 20 high performance core ATM switches ensuring the highest levels of traffic management, security and resilience. ValueUnconstrained by the need to 'protect' other types of service or older technologies, TANet pricing is extremely aggressive and takes both us and our clients a long way towards realising our vision of delivering digital services to any point of an enterprise, irrespective of its location, at a cost similar to moving the same amount of information in the LAN. For Fibernet customers, end users in remote locations can enjoy exactly the same level of performance and service access as those in the head office. International accessThe TANet network has interconnections with more than 100 of the world's leading international network operators, allowing Fibernet UK services to be extended globally, yet managed locally.
